5 Life Lessons I learned from being a Solo Parent for 6 years now. l Life with ZG l Solo Moms PH

I didn't realize I am a Solo parent for 6 years now not until I was about to write this blog. Haha, It only seems like yesterday when I had Zoe. Guess I indeed embraced my journey well.

So today let me share 5 life lessons that I learned from being a Solo parent.

1. Acceptance

Whenever someone asks me how did I do it, I always tell them that acceptance is the key. The moment I accepted this path of being a solo parent I was able to embrace my journey fully. Know more about my story here. I am at peace. Yes, it's not the life I planned of but I'll make the most out of it because I'm the one creating my story. Don't be afraid of what's ahead rather focus on what's in front of you.

2. Put yourself first.

Throughout my solo hood journey, one of my biggest realizations is that I had to put myself first before anyone else. As the saying goes, you can't pour from an empty cup, right? So I need to save time for myself to keep it all together especially since my daughter only depends on me. My mood and my state will not only affect me but also her.

I always make sure to take care of myself every single day. Whether that's a 15 minutes break, wine night, pamper night, or even by just drinking a hot cup of coffee. Self-love isn't selfish especially when you're a mom. It's a necessity to keep us sane. Don't feel guilty about it.

So to all the moms reading this right now, please put yourself first. When life is tough, take a break. Keep it up! You're doing great and you deserve that break!

3. Don't mind the judgments.

I hate the fact that it's already 2021 but there's still a stigma when it comes to being a single mother most especially here in the Philippines. Is it too much to ask for respect? We all have different reasons and stories of how we became a single parent. But everyone is so quick to judge. The sad truth is, that most of the time those judgments cling to us. But hey, shrug it off! You are enough. You are loved. You are worthy! Because in today's society, whatever choices we make people will always judge our choices. So just those mind the judgments, that won't make you less of a person.

4. I am more than capable.

Since becoming a solo parent, I discovered strength and capability I didn't know I had not until becoming a solo parent. The moment we became a solo parent we oath to take full responsibility for our child and we will do anything to raise them. Yes, life is tough and even tougher when we're all alone juggling work, motherhood, and life as it is but know that you are more than capable.

Honestly, this journey to solo hood seems like a rediscovery of myself. As I travel this path the more I learn about myself. I kept on discover talents and skills that I didn't know I had. It seems like a quest and I'm loving it. So if you're asking yourself now if you can, yes definitely. I was in that specific moment years ago wondering if I can get through life alone raising my daughter singlehandedly and here I am right now loving every bit of motherhood.

5. It's okay not to be okay.

Here's the truth, there will always be a time when you'll feel sad, lonely, stressed and it's okay not to be okay. We all go through that phase. There will always be bad days. We sometimes lose it. But remember, to keep on picking up the pieces as we need to keep it together for our child.

It's okay to ask for help especially when it seems like you're about to give up. You don't need to go through this alone. It's okay to ask for help. Call your family, meet up with a friend, have a break, or just cry it all out if that will help you feel better.

Solo motherhood is not an easy path but I'm telling you it's totally worth it.

There's so much to learn as we go through this path. If you're a solo parent and are looking for a support group. Come join our family. We'll be happy to have you in our community. I hope these life lessons somewhat inspire you. If you need someone to talk to, I'm always ready to lend an ear. You can send me a message on my social media accounts and would love to hear you out. Remember, you are not alone in this journey.

Love,

Gen.
