It's a brand new month. So I'm sharing how our second month of homeschooling went. I guess I'll make this a monthly series so I can track our progress and this will also serve as our online portfolio. Check out how our first month went by.
So last, August 13, 2020, Zoe took two exams. Her 2nd monthly exam and 1st quarter exam. I received the test papers the night before and in the morning I asked Zoe when will she take her exam. Then she replied within the day and requested for pizza. I thought we'll go over the 1st quarter topics first since we're doing the 2nd and 3rd quarter already. But she told me, no need to review.
So after having our pizza party, she started doing her exams and finished in about an hour. I'm really in awe with her progress.
While taking the exams she told me "I hope Teacher Cheska will always give me an exam." I asked her why. She replied, "Because her exams are so easy. Unlike your exams, it's too complicated and there's a lot." haha then we both laughed. "But that's okay Mom, I enjoyed most of your exams. You're a great Teacher Mommy!." Aww, my heart! I have the sweetest girl.
Honestly lately, we're kinda slacking off because of the weather. Who else can relate? haha But in just 2 months we finished 2 quarters already. I'm excited actually because we can start adding more subjects in our curriculum. One thing I love about having an open curriculum.
English
We started doing The good and the Beautiful Level 1 this month and Zoe seems to be enjoying the curriculum. We're now at Lesson 14. So far, so good. Zoe loves it because she can read and do arts at the same time. Oh, and since introducing The Good and The Beautiful she's into memorizing poems now.
Writing
Zoe is only 5 years old but we already started with cursive as she's ready for it. For the cursive writing, we're currently working with Level 3 writing of The Good And The Beautiful. But the past week she doesn't want to work with her cursives. So I just let her. Instead, she's painting and drawing a lot this month.
She entered her very first poster making competition for nutrition month and bagged the 3rd place. You can check out her video and a little story behind her work.
Math
Last month, I told you guys that Math seems to be her least favorite subject. But I take it back this month. Haha, I guess it depends on her mood? Haha, check out her video here while working on the worksheets I made for her. Grab your copy now.
One thing I learned and observed with Zoe when she's not into one subject is to make it more fun and do more hands-on activities to catch her attention. In that way, she'll find that subject interesting and craves knowledge.
Science
This month, we studied the life cycle of a butterfly. It's such an amazing experience for both of us. Taking care of the caterpillars to waiting for it to emerge from the chrysalis. We studied the parts of the caterpillars and butterfly too.
We also studied the eyes, nose, ears, tongue, and skin in depth. Zoe loves anatomy at her young age. Good thing I collected many resources from 3 years of book hunting at Big Bad Wolf. I hope they'll come back soon though. Do you know of many upcoming book fair? If so, please let me know.
Filipino
For this month we're studying topics for the 3rd quarter already and practicing reading sentences and we started doing Tagalog Copyworks too.
One advantage of raising a bilingual is that she's not having a hard time reading and writing in English and Tagalog. Hoping she'll be multilingual too so we're studying Spanish. Italian and Korean as of now.
Sibika
We're still working on the topics for the 2nd quarter but this month, Zoe wanted to memorize the Panatang Makabayan and Lupang Hinirang. So we're working on that. She's almost done with Panatang Makabayan and halfway with Lupang Hinirang. Kinda slang and bulol but she's getting there.
Our 2nd month of homeschooling
I'm one proud mom. In just 2 months, Zoe's progress is so impressive. But more than her progress, what makes my heart fuller is that she's having fun and learning happens 24/7 because it's a lifestyle.
Honestly, I'm not expecting her to get all A+ because for us grade doesn't matter. But so far she's acing K2 while still having so much fun in her childhood. No pressure, no forcing just a lot of play, fun, and learning!
If you find this post helpful, don't forget to share this with your family and friends! You can find more homeschooling articles below.
Let's learn and grow together!
We got this, mommas!
Love.
